05.30.17 Full Belly Pantry: Bowery Old Town Bagels - shelf stable!

We are thrilled to be offering Bowery Old Town Bagels for delivery - Bowery has recently developed a shelf stable (for five days!) product that is still boiled like a real New York bagel, so it has the chewy, dense texture one has come to expect from a real bagel - not just round bread with a hole!

The dough is fermented to develop flavor and texture. After a long, cold, slow proof, the bagels are boiled in small batches, and then baked to perfection. This is a very old fashioned recipe that is based on the process used traditionally by America's first bagel bakers, when they moved to New York from Eastern Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The ingredients in Old Town bagels are deliciously simple All our flours and grains are grown and milled in the Pacific Northwest (Shepherd’s Grain and Bob’s Red Mill), malt, yeast, salt, water, high quality toppings, and natural enzymes. No preservatives and nothing artificial are used.

These bagels come in plastic sleeves of six, and can be kept at room temp for five days or frozen for up to 6 months. An order consists of 2 tubes of 6, and will default to a mixed assortment of plain, poppy, and sesame - but feel free to specify in the comment field if you prefer just one or a few flavors. A fourth flavor is available in a sleeve of its own, as well: everything bagels. Pop a tube in the freezer for later and use one the week of your delivery! All Old Town bagels are handmade, vegan and certified kosher by Oregon Kosher.
